Vaccination

It is known that the most effective method of preventing an infectious disease among falcons is to vaccinate them first. Falcons will usually be kept with other falcons or even be in close proximity with humans. The chances of spreading a communicable disease are therefore increased. Due to the speed of transmission and violent nature of these viruses we urge all owners to vaccinate.

We at SWFH offer vaccination to Falcon Pox Virus (Avian pox virus) and Newcastle Disease Virus. Thankfully we do not come across these viruses often; however when we do it unfortunately usually leads to mortality. Falconers are becoming more and more aware of such communicable diseases, and falcon passports are not issued for travel without the falcon being screened for such viruses and being vaccinated against them. In Qatar all moulting centres will now only accept falcons if they can provide a health certificate to prove this.
